Modern gold lines
Instead of a traditional floral or border pattern, these cups carry crisp gold lines that cross and intersect across the white glaze, with matching lines on each saucer. The effect is modern and architectural, and it pairs especially well with white marble, glass, gold cutlery and simple, pale table linen. Gold geometric tea cups bring a designer look to a coffee morning or a dinner party, and they make a stylish gift for anyone with a modern home.
Six cups, six saucers
Each set has 12 pieces: six cups and six matching saucers, enough for a family tea, a coffee morning with friends or an afternoon tea for six. Matching cups make a table look planned, and with six of the gold geometric tea cups, everyone is served at the same time.
The saucer catches drips, gives a place for the teaspoon and a biscuit, and protects the table from a hot cup.
Serving tea the traditional way
Warm the teapot and cups with hot water first, then brew loose tea or tea bags in freshly boiled water for three to five minutes. Pour through a strainer, add milk and sugar to taste, and serve each cup on its saucer with a teaspoon. For doodh patti or karak chai, simmer the tea with milk, sugar and cardamom and pour it straight into the cups.
Small, elegant cups like the gold geometric tea cups are also perfect for Arabic coffee, Turkish coffee and espresso.
Afternoon tea
For an afternoon tea, lay each place with a cup and saucer, a small plate and a napkin, and set out a tiered stand with finger sandwiches, scones with jam and cream, and small cakes. A teapot, a milk jug and a sugar bowl complete the table. The gold geometric tea cups turn an ordinary tea break into an occasion for birthdays, baby showers, Mother’s Day and catch-ups with friends.
Caring for gold-decorated china
Wash the cups and saucers by hand in warm soapy water with a soft sponge, rinse them and dry them with a soft cloth. Gold decoration sits on top of the glaze, so keep these cups out of the dishwasher and the microwave: dishwasher detergent dulls metallic detail and a microwave can spark against it.
Avoid scouring pads and sudden temperature changes, and store the cups side by side rather than stacked inside one another so the rims stay free of chips. Cared for this way, the gold geometric tea cups keep their good looks for years.
Eid, weddings and celebrations
When family and guests gather for Eid, a wedding, a mehndi night or a birthday, a matching tea set makes serving tea and coffee easier and more elegant. Set the cups out on a tray with dates, sweets and biscuits, and every guest feels welcomed. The gold geometric tea cups are just as fitting for Christmas, Diwali and anniversaries.
A gift for tea lovers
A boxed set of cups and saucers is a classic present for a wedding, a housewarming, a new home or a tea lover’s birthday. Pair the gold geometric tea cups with a box of loose tea, a pack of biscuits or a set of golden teaspoons, and it is a gift that gets used and admired at every gathering.
Coffee around the world
Different coffee traditions suit small, elegant cups. Arabic coffee, or gahwa, is lightly roasted and spiced with cardamom and served in small amounts with dates. Turkish coffee is boiled with sugar in a small pot and poured with its foam. An Italian espresso is a short, strong shot. Each one tastes and looks best in a fine cup on a saucer, which is why a set of the gold geometric tea cups is so useful for hosts who like to serve coffee after a meal.
Choosing a pattern
Pick a pattern that suits your table and your other tableware. Gold and white designs go with almost everything, black and gold suits modern and dramatic interiors, and floral patterns feel fresh and traditional. If you already own gold cutlery, gold-rimmed plates or a gold tea tray, the gold geometric tea cups will tie the table together beautifully.
Many families keep one set for everyday tea and another, more decorative set for guests and celebrations.
Displaying the set
Between uses, a cup and saucer set looks lovely displayed in a glass-fronted cabinet, on an open shelf or on a dresser, where the pattern can be seen. Keep the display away from the edge of the shelf and dust it with a soft dry cloth. Having the set on show also means it is ready the moment guests arrive.
