Simple, classic design
Plain polished cutlery never goes out of fashion. The smooth handles of this cutlery set with storage stand are comfortable to hold, easy to clean and match everyday white plates as well as formal dinnerware, which makes the set a reliable choice for daily family use.
The storage stand
The matching stand holds the knives, forks and spoons upright in their own sections, so the set takes up little worktop space and every piece is easy to grab. Cutlery stored upright on a stand also dries in the air between uses and stays together, instead of getting lost in a drawer. On a sideboard or dining table, the cutlery set with storage stand on its stand doubles as a smart display.
Dry each piece before putting it back on the stand, and wipe the stand with a soft damp cloth now and then.
Service for six
Twenty-four pieces is a full set for six people: a dinner knife, a dinner fork, a tablespoon and a teaspoon for each place. That covers breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert, and means a family of six can eat together without anyone waiting for a piece to be washed. A cutlery set with storage stand is also the right size for a couple who like to have friends round.
Lay knives to the right of the plate with the blade facing in, forks to the left, the tablespoon beside the knife and the teaspoon on the saucer or above the plate.
Everyday meals and special occasions
Good cutlery should be used, not saved. Use the cutlery set with storage stand for everyday meals and it makes even a weeknight dinner feel looked after; bring it out for Sunday lunch, Eid, Christmas, birthdays and dinner parties and it gives the table a finished look. Polished silver cutlery suits every colour of plate, from plain white to bold patterns.
Care and cleaning
Wash cutlery soon after the meal, particularly after eggs, salt, vinegar, citrus and tomato, which mark steel if left to dry. Use warm water, a little washing-up liquid and a soft sponge, then dry every piece straight away with a soft cloth to avoid water spots. Avoid scouring pads, bleach and abrasive powders. Stainless steel is hard-wearing, and a quick dry is what keeps it shining.
Cloudy marks from hard water lift with a soak in warm water and a splash of white vinegar, followed by a rinse and dry. Never use steel wool on a cutlery set with storage stand.
Storing between uses
Make sure every piece is completely dry before it is stored, and keep the set together so it is easy to count and lay out when guests arrive. Store knives so the blades do not knock against other metal, and keep teaspoons separate from tablespoons so the right piece is always to hand. Kept this way, a cutlery set with storage stand stays complete and scratch-free for years, ready for the next family meal or celebration.
Why stainless steel
Stainless steel resists rust and corrosion, does not taint food and stands up to years of washing, which is why it is used for cutlery in homes, restaurants and hotels alike. Reusable steel cutlery is also a better long-term choice than disposable plastic for parties and gatherings.
Using the right piece
Each piece has its job. The dinner knife cuts meat, vegetables and bread; the dinner fork holds food while cutting and carries it to the mouth; the tablespoon is for soup, rice, curry and cereal and doubles as a serving spoon; and the teaspoon is for tea, coffee, yoghurt and small desserts. With six of each in a cutlery set with storage stand, every guest has the full set they need for a three-course meal.
For a dessert course, bring the teaspoons out with the pudding, or lay them above each plate at the start of the meal.
Dishwasher tips
If you use a dishwasher, place knives, forks and spoons handles down in the basket and mix the types so they do not nest together and stay dirty in the middle. Use a gentle programme where possible and take the cutlery out as soon as the cycle ends, drying any drops with a soft cloth. This keeps the polished finish free of spots.
Whatever the method, drying promptly is the simplest way to keep a cutlery set with storage stand looking new for years.
A wedding or housewarming gift
A complete cutlery set with storage stand is one of the most useful gifts for a wedding, a new home or an anniversary, because it gives a whole household matching cutlery in one box. It suits couples setting up home, students moving into a shared house and families replacing a mixed drawer of odd pieces.
